Rubik's Cube Patterns

Notation

To describe a rotation on the cube we use letters. There are only six letters used, and each letter represents a face of the cube. A single letter by itself means to turn that face clockwise 90 degrees.
A letter followed by an apostrophe means to turn that face counterclockwise 90 degrees.
A letter with the number 2 after it means to turn that face 180 degrees.

SuperFlip

The SuperFlip is the “most scrambled” Rubik’s Cube pattern. Every piece is where it’s supposed to be but the edges are oriented wrong. The eight corners are correctly oriented, but all twelve of the edges are oriented incorrectly. The shortest path between a solved cube and the Superflip position requires 20 moves.

Checkerboard

The most simplest pattern of the Rubik's Cube, It only takes three double layer moves to do this. One can discover this algorithms intuitively. It is simple to make and simple to return to the solved state.

Cube in a cube

The Cube in a cube pattern is one of my favorite patterns on the Rubik's Cube. The result looks like there is a 2x2x2 cube within the 3x3x3 cube. It took me a few tries to do this pattern properly. This pattern would also work with the higher order cubes.

Cube in a cube in a cube

One step higher than the Cube in a cube is the Cube in a cube in a cube pattern. It is like one corner for the "2x2 cube" has been twisted. Just like the Cube in a cube, it also took me a few tries to do this pattern properly. This pattern can also be done on higher order cubes.

Six spots

This is one of the first patterns I learned without any help from the Internet. You could do the Four spots pattern starting from the Six spots pattern. Some people I know call this a Flower pattern. The pattern somewhat resembles a flower for them, including myself.

Tom Parks' Pattern

This pattern is one of my favorite patterns for the Rubik's Cube. The results looks so confusing since there are three stripes on each face of the cube. When I give my Rubik's Cube in this state, they would be confused on how I did it. It is fun to look at.
